DFAS has confused me - please help.

I am a 20 year veteran, retired from the Navy (Viet Nam and Desert Storm).  My DVA disabilty is 80%, and my Combat Related Disability is 50% (PTSD).  I just started getting IU.  My CRSC Pay Statement made sense to me, but after I called DFAS and asked a question about disability pay, they advised me to submit a CRSC reconsideration  form to the Dept. of the Navy since I just started getting IU benefits.  I see on the form that there is a block to check when in receipt of Individual Unemployability.   

I would call DFAS back to attempt to get it cleared up, but in the past I have spoken to different people at DFAS and have gotten different answers.  I don't know who is right.

So I am wondering what the purpose would be for me to submit the form.  I don't think the Navy can make an increase to my CRSC pay, or can they since my receipt of IU?  If so, how would my pay change.

Good afternoon all,

Today, 4 Jan, 2013, I mailed my CRSC application to Fort Knox.  I started this thread to post my timeline of events. I will update the thead as I receive info.

Background

  • Ch 61 retiree, NOV 2011,  TDRL, Army, 15 years, 8 months
  • CW2
  • 60% Army (50%PTSD, 10% back, 10% back)
  • 90% VA



Here is what I included in my packet:

DD 2860 - PTSD 70% VA, currently 50% DoD, and Tinnitus 10 % VA
DD 214's
Retirement orders
VA rating decsions
MEB results
OER
NCOER documenting enemy engagement
CIB orders
CAB orders

I belive I submitted the proper documentation to be a first time go at this.

QUESTION---- For PTSD, I was initialy rated at 50% by Army and VA during the MEB/PEB and placed at 60% total,  TDRL,  90% VA.  I...

I'm also in the need for assistance and a bit confused as the rest.  If someone could help me calculate what I'll receive for CRSC compensation. I have been rated at 70% Mil - 90% VA and found combat related! I'm only been in 7years E5. I understand that I wont receive both retirement and VA payments so what does CRSC provide ? Thank you for help in this matter!

CRSC Vs CRDP

Ok here I ago with an attempt to explain and hopefully gain some insight.  I am 100% P&T retired with 22 years of service.  I recieve 3188.00 for VA Diasbility.  My military retirement is 2588.00.  I can recieve 1583.00 for CRSC or the entire 2588.00 for CRDP.  I believe the CRDP at more than 1000.00more a month than CRSC is the better option.  Does any one else have another opinion?

CRSC or CRDP that is the question?

I have been receiving CRSC since about 2004.  Just got my annual letter yesterday to either stay with CRSC or change to CRDP.  The problem this time is there is a difference in the amount. In the past the CRSC payment and CRDP payment were nearly the same. Additionally in the past I was working (Civil Service).  Now however I just retired last yr and am on a fixed income.  So every penny counts.  

Some background: Currently I am getting VA Disability of $1402, Army Retirement of $543 (after VA offset) and CRSC of $888. (VA and CRSC are tax free).  However the letter I received asking which option did I want to take indicated that CRDP would be $1402 (taxable).  

So here are my questions.  If I take the CRDP do I stop getting my Army Retirement and just draw the CRDP of $1402 and VA of $1402 = $2804  OR

I have papers from the VA GW exam that says that my sinus and rhinitis are considered as gulf war related. Is this good enough evidence for CSRC approval? Has anyone got approved with that or some similar evidence?

Need Help with CRSC

My husband and I are getting the major run around on his Combat Related Pay.  He is sitting at 100% with VA and 60% Combat Related pay.  He spent approximately 15 years in the military at E5.  Also, he was medically retired after this last trip to the desert.  DFAS says his CRSC pay is $46 a month.  Does this sound correct?  We were expecting around $1100 a month.  We would greatly appreciate your input and any advice to get all this straightened out.  It seems like everyone we contact just gives us the run around.

Hi everyone,I am a E-6 OIF,OEF,veteran with 14 years 8 months Army Reserve.has been retired under chapter 61 with 80% disabilyty from army wich is $2,501 montly butI have VA waiver receiveng only $436 montly.  90% VA compensation all combat related wich is $1,902 monthly. Recently applied for CRSC and has been granted with 90%.now my questions are:   
        
                     1- how much money I will be receiving from CRSC ?
                     2-My reserve time in service count as it is or is a convertion time chart that DFAS use?

 I really will apreaciate any comments.

Found out my CRSC amount today

Hi Y'all
As I've posted in the previous thread, I've been approved all 80% for my CRSC. Due to my LOS of 3Y4M, as Dally stated, it is exact $141 extra per month starting Feb 1st and somewhere from 30-60 days for my retroactive pay to kick in. Since I'm a chapter 61, less than 20yrs retiree, the backpay will be counted from Jan 2008 til now Jan 2013 (Up to 6 years max of retroactive) equals to roughly $10k of tax free. 
I'd like to thanks to the moderators and others who have been answering our questions. I'd like to help others on the process of claiming CRSC on the how-tos as well..Just shoot me any question.
